Members of the Woodworkers of Central New York demonstrated at the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum on June 14th during their annual Boat Float n' Folk Festival. This was our first time demonstrating at this Museum. The 2025 event coincides with a variety of events along the Erie Canal as it celebrates 200 years in operation. Set Up for Demonstrations - June 14th, 2025
Our displays are set-up and ready to go. The club's spring pole lathe, Barbara's 145 year-old treadle scrollsaw, Arlene's chair for carving, Gary's carving along with a bunch of samples, and Eric for chair caning. Eric swept the floor before we started to clean out the small stones.
Spring Pole Lathe Demonstrations - June 14th, 2025
Charlie, Issac, and Paul were among those demonstrating. Kaleb, Gregg and a few others also ran the spring pole lathe.
Chair Caning Demonstrations - June 14th, 2025
A steady group of visitors stopped to admire and learn about chair caning from Eric during the day.
Carving Demonstrations - June 14th, 2025
Arlene, Ed, Rod, Gregg, and Gary demonstrated a variety of carving (and sanding) skills throughout the day.
Scrolling Demonstrations - June 14th, 2025
Barbara operated her 145-year-old treadle scrollsaw throughout the day making a few little animals, like those we create during the NYS Fair. Many people were fascinated by the saw.
Dovetail Cutting Demonstrations - June 14th, 2025
Bruce brought his mini-bench and cut some dovetails by hand.
Museum Equipment Discussion
Bruce and Charlie spent some time examining and analyzing the milling display in concert with the descriptions provided. They examined many of the different tools on display in the Museum.
Blacksmithing Demonstrations - June 14th, 2025
Mark Teece (British Blacksmith & Club Member) along with another of his colleagues demonstrated blacksmithing. Mark created the dog face shown in the photo.
