Our Last 2021 Virtual Contest!

We had 9 projects entered in this our seventh virtual contest.  The votes were received anonymously through a survey.   Thank you for participating, whether it was by creating an entry or voting!

Lighted Nativity

The artist, Robert Ward, scrolled this nativity plaque from 1/2" black walnut, added a 1/4" plywood backer board painted black, then gave the project a polyurethane finish before adding battery-operated fairy lights.

Gnomeland

A fantasyland created by Charlie LaPrease with a variety of gnomes, scary people includes their home - an turned igloo and a group of miniature trees.

Winter Cardinal

This is a family project with Ralph Negrotto scrolling this winter scene from 3/4" pine and then his wife, Elaine embellishing it with wood burning as needed before applying acrylic paint to highlight.  The background was made to look like pine bushes by applying green paint to black paper.

Puzzling Snowmen!

Arlene Schlueter scrolled this fun multi-level puzzle of snowmen from luan plywood, assembled the layers, and painted each snowman with acrylics.
Comments from the voters:  Family heirloom!  Fun and lovely.  Never have seen anything like this before - cool!  Very cute puzzle!

Gnome for the Holidays

Steve Sabella used lessons learned from Dave Grant's November demonstration to create a regiment of gnomes as ornaments for the family.  The beards were airbrushed to match the hats.

Tree Ornaments

Jim Yonkers created quite a collection of carved and turned ornaments.  The carved pieces were made from  driftwood bark found on Cayuga Lake.  Of course, once turned and carved, the pieces were artfully embellished with acrylics.

Waiting for Santa!

Rick Kiehl made this pine sleigh which is lead by Rudolph.  He painted it with acrylics and given a final clear enamel finish before being loaded with presents to await Santa and his night delivering to children worldwide!
The sleigh is measures 13" x 6" x 9" and Rudolph is 7" x 3" x 11".

Holiday Charcuterie Board

Mike Vecillio glued up straight boards and when dry, cut at 30 degrees before flipping every other one and regluing it.  The board is made with maple, cherry, and walnut and finished with Odie's oil.

Three Ornaments

Not An Entry ... But an Adirondack Nightstand

Gary Kieffer just finished this Adirondack nightstand, one of two that will grace his bedroom.  He used maple for much of it but accented the front of each with book-matched cherry for the drawer fronts.  It'll be added to the January newsletter but since he sent it along, we thought we'd add it to the end!
