Members of the Woodworkers of Central New York enjoy helping out a couple of the local scout troops on a yearly basis with their Pinewood Derby.  For the past several years we've helped Cub Scout Pack 71 in Baldwinsville and the combined area Girl Scout troop with each of their events.  In 2018, the combined Girl Scout event had so many entries that they needed two sessions.
Our team allows the parents and organizers to enjoy the derby with their kids.  We handle the car check-in process, measuring, weighing, and advising the kids (or is it the parents!) regarding their cars.   We manage the pit area, act as starters, and handle the movement of cars back to the pit.  The leadership also has our team handle the selection of winners of various special awards like best paint car, most creative car, car that isn't a car, most original, best imagination, and superhero car.   The team enjoys working with on this project and always tries to figure out what the fastest car will be.​
