Many demonstrations cannot be conducted during our various meetings due to the equipment they need or the mess they will make. A new club event was started in 2023 - our Summer Education Day/Woodworking Soiree. To provide several of these demonstrations for members to attend and/or participate in we held our first day on July 22, 2023. Since then, we've held one in 2024 and 2025. Our event for 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, July 11th. We start at 9am and run until about 3:30-4pm. Around noon we hold our family picnic. Everyone brings a dish for the buffet and the club provides hamburgs and hot dogs.
We hold the event at the club's workshop location, Eight Acres Event Center, a private home owned by our gracious hosts. The site includes the owner's large garage space, an open area for demonstrations, the owner's lumber mill, and plenty of space for parking.
For the first event in 2023, we erected a single large tent under which several of the demonstrators were housed while others will be in the open space or in the workshop area. Comments from the 100+ people who attended in 2023 indicated the event needed to be repeated. We repeated the event in 2024 on July 20th and we erected two tents for that event. Again, it was very popular. The 2025 event was equally successful with at least 100 or more folks attending on a very hot day.
