Members asked for specialized training on using a wood burner. We found a local artist who demonstrated the use of a wood burner during a two hour session and then held a workshop for beginners/intermediate folks. We scheduled this event in April with 30 possible in the Friday evening session and up to 20 in the workshop. The instructor for this session was Sandra Sabene of the Liverpool Art Center. The demo was held at the Liverpool Arts Center location while the workshop was held at the Pathfinder Studio and Nature Sanctuary in Martville.
Several members of the club attended either or both the pyrography demonstration on Friday evening, April 21st or the workshop on Saturday afternoon, April 22nd. Both sessions were led by Sandra Sabene of the Liverpool Arts Center. The demonstration with 22 attendees was held at the Center in Liverpool. There were many questions, answers, ah-ha moments, and discussion. Saturday afternoon 17 members gathered at the Martville Pathfinder Studio retreat location for an afternoon workshop. Attendees explored and practiced with two basic types of tips available with most wood burners, the line and shading tips. Once everyone was comfortable with their tips, images were transferred to wood and everyone started to create their project. Sandra worked with each attendee as needed to develop their skills, address bad habits, and provide positive encouragement. The resulting projects is phenomenal as shown in the photo below. The training was a complete success with even some of the experienced attendees leaving with many new ideas, skills, techniques, and tips. Thanks for a great event, Sandra!
