Current Newsletter Distribution
An email distributing the April 2026 newsletter was distributed to members on Tuesday, March 24th. The Member-Only website area password was updated on April 1st and the new password sent to all members of record on that date. If you are a member and did not receive, please first check your Spam folder, then your Trash folder. If you still do not find it, please send a note to the club mailbox [email protected]. We do not post the current month's newsletter in the public area for 3 months. |

Missing Emails from the Club? Starting on October 1st, most (if not all) bulk emails from the Woodworkers of Central New York are sent using the new [email protected] address. Individual emails may come from [email protected]. Please be sure to add these addresses to your "safe senders" list. If you are missing a newsletter, process a membership and don't receive a welcoming email, or have not received an informational email in a couple weeks, please check your Spam or Junk folders for the email. If you don't see it, please send an email to [email protected] to check on the status of your membership. Note that renewal receipts are not sent but you can always check to see if you renewed by asking. |

Let's try this again ...! Originally scheduled for February but we needed to punt. So, Dave Grant returns to the lathe to show us how to Turn Apples in April! The handouts are already printed and will be placed on the website for our Zoom folks on the 14th.
This session will be available as a hybrid session (both in-person and via Zoom). Come early to sign-in your Show & Tell and Monthly Challenge projects, enjoy refreshments, or to chat with fellow woodworkers. The Monthly Challenge is a three-sided bowl based on Ed Siegel's March demonstration. Note that the video of this demo is available to members on the website in the Member-Only area!
Don't have your projects as they were gifts or you have Show & Tell that can't easily be transported? Send photos and descriptions ahead of time so they can be added to our slide show. Send an email with photos and a short description to [email protected] by 3pm on April 14th to be included in the slide show.
Guests are always welcome at no fee. Just sign-in at the front desk and mingle with others. We look forward to seeing everyone, hearing about your woodworking escapades, and seeing your recent projects.

The Carving SIG will gather for part 1 of a workshop on Thursday, April 16th to Carve a Greenman as shown with Mike Bloomquist. Not interested in the topic? It's a great time to work on carvings not yet completed and receive help as needed from other carvings on particularly troublesome areas. You can carve until 8pm. Don't forget to bring your Show & Tell!
We welcome guests at all demonstrations for no fee. However, if you are a guest and wish to participate in this workshop, plan to pay $5 for a one-day membership for legal requirements.

Plan to join other members at the Saturday Workshop on Saturday, April 18th at the Eight Acres Event Center! All members are invited to attend to turn, interact with other members, learn, purchase wood and consumables, or to just chat. Members are sent an email to remind them and provide the address 1-2 days before workshop day. We ask that you pre-register. We look forward to seeing you! We hope to have the doors wide open if the weather cooperates!
NOTE: This is a private home so access to the address is limited. Members are provided the address. Others must ask and prove they are indeed a woodworker not a spam-request.

Join members of the Woodworkers of Central New York as they showcase their skills during the 4th Annual Syracuse Maker Faire on Saturday, May 2nd from 10am to 5pm. Club members will be demonstrating many different genres of woodworking - Carving, Scrolling, Turning, Hand-Tool Woodworking, Basketmaking, and Chair Caning. Additionally, there will be a table with Touchable Toys and our sophisticated video system will be on display and in use to show our demonstrations on a large screen. Come and visit us! Someone approaches you to make them something but they have no plans, just an idea. Bruce Meissner, an retired design enginner, will discuss how to take any idea/request and break it down into manageable pieces in this presentation he's calling You Want Me to Make What? Over the years, he's taught many interns how not to freakout when they see something complicated. Instead, he says, see the project as a group of simpler parts making up the whole assembly. That mind set works on anything that can be made by man.
As with all Woodworking SIG meetings, this session will be available as a hybrid session (both in-person and via Zoom) with the Zoom link sent out on the Monday before the meeting. Questions are generally handled via Zoom's Chat feature.
We will have Show & Tell after Bruce's talk, so bring whatever you want to show. Come early to sign in your projects, chat with others, and have coffee & treats!

The Woodworkers of CNY received the Inaugural
AAW Communications Excellence award!
AAW Communications Excellence award!
This new award from AAW recognizes chapters that demonstrate effective, creative, and innovative communications through email newsletters, websites, social media, direct mail campaigns or video content. The objective is to recognize chapters that have excelled in disseminating information, educating, and entertaining their members and non-members, and promoting the art and craft of woodturning through compelling and creative communication methods. The email notifying club president, Doug North, of the award can be reviewed here.
